Fabulous vintage 1930s black velvet evening dress with an elegant, body-skimming bias-cut silhouette and beautiful depth of texture throughout. Crafted in rich black velvet, likely rayon velvet, with a soft, fluid drape and subtle pile variation that catches the light.
The bodice is especially refined, featuring decorative covered button accents that extend from each shirred shoulder down toward the underarms, adding sculptural interest without interrupting the clean lines of the dress. Long bishop sleeves are softly bloused through the arms and gently gathered at the wrists.
The flattering bias-cut skirt skims the hips before relaxing into a graceful, fluid hem with wonderful velvet sheen and movement. The back closes with a hook-and-eye at the nape, forming a keyhole opening, with additional hook-and-loop closures partially down the back. Full vertical rows of covered buttons trim the keyhole opening and extend to the waist, providing an elegant finishing detail.
The dress is shown with — and will be included with — a true vintage 1930s Art Deco–style clasp, thoughtfully mounted onto a vintage black velvet ribbon to create a belt. While this belt is not original to the dress, both components are period-appropriate, and the pairing complements the gown beautifully, subtly emphasizing the waist without detracting from the original design.

No significant shine or wear is apparent to the velvet; as with all antique velvet, surface appearance may vary subtly with changes in lighting and pile.
