Vintage 1920s Sheer Floral Silk Gauze Day Dress with Tie-Front Shawl Collar

Vintage late 1920s day dress made of floating, sheer black silk gauze printed with large florals in pink, coral, blue, yellow, orange, and muted green. The dress has a wide bateau neckline, long sheer sleeves with six button-and-loop closures at each cuff, ruffled cuff detailing, and a softly flared, side-seamed skirt finished with a deep flounce.

Shawl-like panels extend from the front shoulders and tie at the center front - the left side has ruching at top. The back features a wide, cape-like shawl panel extending across the shoulders and ending near the waist. The dress has no closures and must be pulled on over the head.

Deaccessioned from the Dartmouth College Museum. It does have the museum tag stapled onto interior back of dress. I have not removed for provenance (see pic).

For reference model is 5'2" with a 31.5" bust, 25.5" waist and 37" hip. 

Condition: Good! One hand-stitched sheer black mesh patch to the front skirt, reinforcing an area of fabric loss. A faint stain at the left front bust blends into the colorful floral print and is difficult to notice unless closely examining. Two small holes to the upper back, one tiny pinhole at the neckline, and one small snag near the hem. Scattered pulled and loose threads.

Presents beautifully when worn.
