Vintage 1920s Chinese Export Hand Embroidered Silk Pajama Lounge Set, M/L - L

Exceptional vintage 1920s Chinese export two-piece pajama lounge set made of black silk jacquard woven with subtle tonal Chinese motifs. The set is extensively hand embroidered in multicolored silk thread with large florals, what appear to be stylized butterflies and scrolling flower motifs in shades of coral, tangerine, red, pink, blue, ivory, grey and green.

The jacket has a standing Mandarin collar, wide sleeves and black frog closures down the front. Cobalt blue figured silk brocade trims the collar, front, hem and cuffs, woven with butterflies and multicolored florals. Beyond the brocade trim are gorgeous wide greenish blue silk satin cuff panels additionally hand embroidered with large florals and butterflies in both satin stitch and exceptionally fine, densely worked French knots, with metallic gold couched detailing. The jacket is fully lined in blue silk.

Matching wide-leg pajama pants are made of the same black silk jacquard and decorated with scattered hand embroidered florals and large stylized butterfly motifs along the lower legs. The hems are finished with the same cobalt blue figured silk brocade used on the jacket. The pants are unlined with the exception of blue silk facings at the cuffs. Adjustable silk ties at the sides of the waist allow the waist to be gathered smaller.

A very faint original 'Made in China' label remains inside the pants, and an even fainter tag is located at the nape of the jacket.

Condition: Very Good to Near excellent! Some minor pilling to the silk and occasional loose embroidery threads. The brocade trim around the jacket neckline has come unstitched in a few areas, exposing some of the original paper interfacing beneath. There is some fraying along the interior edging of the blue silk lining. Two small areas of surface wear to the blue-green silk satin cuff trim. A small bit of the blue silk lining is exposed along the front left underarm seam, likely caught within the original stitching. One very faint lightened spot to the front of the jacket near the embroidery and the faintest scattered speckling near one pant hem.

Presents beautifully in truly amazing condition with extensive hand embroidery!
