Exceptional late-1930s evening gown crafted in sheer pink organza — likely silk or fine cotton organdy — with remarkable original provenance. The dress is accompanied by its original studio portrait, depicting the original owner wearing the same gown for her 1936 Wheaton High School graduation in Minnesota, offering a rare and tangible connection between garment, wearer, and moment in time.
The silhouette is softly elongated and fluid, cut on the bias to skim the body with graceful movement. A dramatic triple-tiered ruffle collar neckline frames the shoulders, creating a romantic, sculptural effect which is echoed at the hem with a triple-tiered, bias-cut skirt, allowing the sheer organza to fall in gentle layers.
The fabric has a light, airy hand and soft translucence, reading as a delicate rosy pink that shifts subtly with movement and light. A matching pink under-slip accompanies the gown, providing structure and coverage beneath the sheer outer layer and completing the ensemble. The gown closes with 5 snaps along the left hand side waist.
Provenance
This gown belonged to Lilian May Heidelberger of Dumont, Minnesota, who wore it in 1936 for her Wheaton High School graduation. The included original portrait documents the dress as worn, preserved, and cherished at the time of its creation. Pieces with this level of visual and personal documentation are exceptionally uncommon and offer a rare glimpse into the lived history of 1930s American fashion.
A truly special, museum-worthy example of late-1930s design — romantic, personal, and remarkably well preserved.

Condition:
Very good antique condition overall. The sheer organza shows minor, age-appropriate wear, including a few small scattered spots and light discolorations, as well as several small breaks and stress splits to the outer sheer layer, primarily along tier seams and lower skirt areas. The gown presents beautifully when worn or displayed and remains structurally sound. The matching under-slip is intact and wearable.
