Exceptional antique 1920s evening dress crafted in rich black velvet and lavishly adorned with intricate silver and white beadwork, offering bold graphic presence. The neckline is framed with dense beaded decoration featuring repeating circular and cross-like geometric motifs, echoed throughout the skirt in beautifully layered horizontal bands. The waist features a more geometric design. The beadwork is highly detailed and architectural, combining seed and tube beads that catch the light without overwhelming the velvet ground.
The dropped waistline and elongated skirt are classic to the era, finished with ornate beading near the hem in grand Art Deco floral designs. These motifs are visually separated at the front by an elongated solid black velvet sash, creating striking contrast and vertical emphasis. The interplay between plush black velvet and cool silver beadwork is especially dramatic in person.
Label: Franklin Simon & Co. Fifth Avenue, N.Y.
Content: Silk velvet, glass beading
*Best Fit: M - M/L
Underarms: 44"
Waist: 36" (10" below underarm)
Hip: 47"
Length: 48 1/4"
*Not meant to be fitted. 1920s dresses were worn for a comfortable loose fit. Your measurements need to be at least 2" less than garment*
Condition: Very Good antique condition. I carefully hand-stitched and secured loose thread ends throughout. A small amount of bead loss is present; in a few areas this appears as faint brownish outlines where beads were originally set. There is one tiny light/white wear spot near a faint brown mark, as shown, and a couple of minor blemishes to the velvet on the back. Overall beadwork remains visually strong and intact, and the velvet retains a rich appearance with expected age-related wear only.
