Antique Edwardian 1900s Printed Cotton Gibson Girl Dress, Tiered Skirt & Blouse Set, Small

Antique early 1900s Edwardian two-piece Gibson Girl ensemble consisting of a semi-sheer printed cotton blouse and coordinating tiered skirt. The delicate cotton print features a faint off-white floral motif set against a softly speckled gray ground, accented with a subtle woven stitched stripe.

The blouse is constructed with an interior white cotton bodice that fastens down the front with white glass buttons, providing structure beneath the semi-sheer outer layer. The outer printed cotton features pintuck seams extending from the front shoulders and down either side of the center back. A softly pouched pigeon-breast (pouter) bodice gathers into a nipped waistline, finished with an elongated peplum-style hem designed to be tucked into the skirt, consistent with Gibson Girl styling. The outer blouse closes down the center front with etched glass buttons. Long sheer sleeves are lightly gathered and unlined, finishing in distinctive overlapping arrow-pointed hems with non-functional button accents.

The matching skirt falls to floor length with an asymmetrical tiered design and a slightly elongated back hem. It is fitted at the waistband and upper hip before flowing into a very full sweep, created by dense gathering at the center back. The skirt fastens at the center back waistband with a single large hook and eye.

Condition: Good antique condition. The skirt shows some light spotting, two mends at the upper front, white fading down the front panel, and two tears at a skirt tier. The blouse has a patch at the front right underarm, three areas of fabric wear at the back right shoulder and back nape, and a small hole at the front sleeve.
