Wonderful antique turn-of-the-century walking suit dating to the early Edwardian period, circa 1900–1905, comprised of a blue and white striped cotton skirt paired with a blue linen jacket finished with crisp white soutache trim. The tailoring reflects the transitional moment between late Victorian structure and early Edwardian softness, combining fitted shaping with a lighter, more fluid summer construction.
The skirt is patterned with vertical blue and white stripes that transition to diagonal striping at the lower half, created by bands of indigo-blue trim. A high waistline sits semi-fitted through the upper hip before flaring out into fantastic, fluid waves with beautiful movement. The skirt closes at the center back waistband with a single white glass button and features hand-stitched pleats at each back side (possibly an early alteration), along with one hook-and-eye fastening at the skirt opening.
The accompanying blue linen walking jacket features soutache embroidery that runs along and around the neckline, sleeve hems, and front pockets. Flattering seam-work shapes the bodice, while the long sleeves are lightly gathered at the shoulders, echoing late-Victorian influence without the exaggerated volume of the 1890s. The jacket fastens with three white glass button closures and maintains a graceful, tailored Edwardian line through the back.
A truly fantastic antique summer walking dress suit ensemble from the turn of the century.

Skirt shows faint yellowing at the upper front just below the waistband. The jacket has a rust spot at the front left pocket, along with a very faint small spot just above this area (shown in the 8th image collage). An additional rust spot is present at the back left sleeve. There is a very minor, faint spot below the soutache trim at the front neckline, along with light overall tinting at the center back. Subtle fading is present, most noticeable around the shoulders and upper sleeves.
Please note: I have not spot treated these areas. The suit was gently washed using Dawn dish detergent only. Despite these minor, age-appropriate issues, the ensemble presents beautifully.
