Antique Late Victorian 1890s Cropped Jacket with Leg-of-Mutton Sleeves, Velvet Trim, Lace Panels & Enamel Rose Buttons, Small - S/M

Striking antique late Victorian cropped jacket dating to the 1890s, expertly constructed in finely woven wool with a creamy yellow ground and light blue check. Rich blue velvet accents are used throughout, and the jacket features voluminous leg-of-mutton sleeves and a sharply cropped bodice that sits high at the waist, creating the bold, sculptural silhouette iconic of the era. Intricate lace panels run vertically along the shoulders and also trim the neckline, front panels, hem, and sleeve cuffs, which are further detailed with dimensional, layered lace rosettes. These three-dimensional rosettes also accent each upper side of the collar. The blue portions are velvet, lending a soft, plush depth of color to the design.

Both the front and back are beautifully accented with 30 dainty pink rosebud enamel buttons arranged in a geometric cutout pattern. The bodice closes down the center front with hook-and-eye closures and is lined in cream silk satin. Equally compelling worn or displayed, this exceptional jacket makes a striking statement piece.

There are some small to tiny holes, primarily to the sleeves, along with three light discoloration spots to the upper back, a minor thin spot nearby, and three very small thin areas just below the velvet collar. A wear hole is present at the center left back near the hem where the inner cheesecloth-type lining is visible. There is also a slight yellow discoloration to the blue velvet on the front right panel near the hem. The cream silk satin lining shows wear and tearing, most notably at the underarm areas, revealing the interior buckram structure.  All wear is shown in the photographs.
