Antique Late 1880s Bustle-Era Purple Silk Taffeta Bodice Jacket with Sculptural Bow Back, XS

Exceptional antique late 1880s bustle-era bodice jacket crafted in a richly toned purplish dark blue silk taffeta with that unmistakable crisp hand and light rustle.

The jacket is beautifully shaped through expert seamwork, with pronounced waist definition and dramatic elongation at the back, designed specifically for wear over a bustle. A sculptural bow arrangement anchors the rear, creating a striking focal point that emphasizes the bustle silhouette. The front features finely executed ruching and narrow tuck pleats at the upper bodice. The hem and edges are finished with crisp pleated trim.

Fastening down the front are original etched antique shank buttons with botanical motifs. The tailored interior includes four original covered boning channels (two at each side), with the remainder shaped through precise seamwork. The interior is lined in glazed cotton, and the previous owner’s name remains written inside, offering a direct connection to the garment’s original history.
