Antique c. 1900 Ivory Silk & Insertion Lace Gibson Girl Two-Piece Dress Set — Museum Quality

Museum-quality antique two-piece dress set dating to the early 1900s. Made of champagne ivory silk with extensive geometric insertion lace throughout.

The bodice features a high standing collar, sheer silk yoke with floral lace medallions and a swooping scalloped design, and a wide gathered silk and lace shawl-like ruffle extending across the front, shoulders, and back. Full three-quarter-length sleeves are finished with lace cuffs. The gathered pigeon-breast front partially obscures the slightly pointed, tiered fitted waistband. A dimensional silk rosette decorates the back collar. The body of the bodice is lined in sheer cotton muslin, excluding the sheer yoke. The bodice closes down the back with buttons, with hook-and-eye closures at the collar and waistband.

The full gathered skirt is constructed in two layers. Sweeping scalloped bands of silk and insertion lace decorate the upper skirt, with horizontal silk bands, insertion lace, and gathered panels encircling the lower portion and hem. The skirt closes at the center back with hooks and eyes and is gathered into a cotton twill tape waistband. The interior underskirt is made of loosely woven cotton muslin and finished with a scalloped lace hem.

An additional cotton petticoat, not included, was worn beneath the skirt for the modeled photographs and video.

For reference, model is 5'2 with a 25.5" waist, 37" hip and 31.5" bust. Skirt/bodice waist was able to close - fitted but not uncomfortable. 

Condition: Very Good! Structurally exceptional, with strong silk throughout. The bodice has very minor spotting to the back right side, a few tiny pin-sized holes as shown, and localized yellowing near the inner seam of the front left sleeve. The outer silk skirt has scattered small spots, primarily around the lower back portion and near the hem. The interior cotton muslin underskirt also has a few scattered spots. These issues are difficult to notice when worn. Presents beautifully.
