Striking antique mid-to-late 1920s wool cape coat by The “Palmer Garment,” Percival B. Palmer & Co., Chicago. Crafted in a taupe wool with a soft hand, this Art Deco era coat has beautiful weight and drape, falling with an easy, fluid presence. The design features a true 1920s cape-style cut, with wide integrated bell sleeves and a straight body intended to layer effortlessly over period dresses. A broad shawl collar frames the neckline, finished with rows of decorative silk floss top-stitching that is echoed again at the sleeve hems. The front closes with two oversized buttons set low on the body, emphasizing length and movement rather than fit — a classic detail seen in late-1920s outerwear.

The back is the standout, detailed with elongated vertical bands of silk floss embroidery that terminate in bold arrow point motifs. These pointed arrow forms are executed entirely in silk thread, giving a soft, refined sheen and a beautifully tactile surface. The arrow point embroidery draws the eye downward and reinforces the long vertical line of the coat, a hallmark of late-1920s Art Deco design influenced by contemporary architecture, graphic ornament, and geometric motifs.

Additional details include slit pockets at the sides and a patterned silk interior lining. Elegant, sculptural, and highly wearable, this is a standout example of a 1920s cape coat with strong Art Deco presence.

Label: The "Palmer Garment" Percival B. Palmer & Co. Makers Chicago

Best Fit: Large - XL - XXL
Underarms: 55" around
Length: 43"

Condition: Good
The exterior wool remains structurally strong and wearable. There is age-related wear to the silk lining, including fraying and splitting at interior nape, underarms and stress points. The exterior wool shows some very small chew marks and minor areas of discoloration, all subtle and unobtrusive. A small opening at the top of one slit pocket has been discreetly hand-stitched for stability, and small seam openings at the outer underarms would benefit from light hand stitching. These issues do not affect the structure, wearability, or overall presentation of the coat. Please review photos for detail.
