Antique 1910s Blue Wool Walking Suit with Plush Trim & Covered Buttons, Edwardian Two-Piece, XS - S

Exceptional antique walking suit dating to the early–mid 1910s, expertly tailored in deep blue wool with a pronounced diagonal rib. The cutaway bodice jacket features a striking asymmetrical, V-shaped front closure and is finished with black plush pile trim at the collar. Coordinating velvet-covered buttons are used throughout the jacket, serving both functional and decorative roles and reinforcing the suit’s cohesive, intentional design. The jacket may be worn open, as shown, or fully buttoned for a more structured look. The back is especially striking, finished with a dramatic elongated, sweeping hem accented with paneled trim. The jacket retains partial fine cotton lining at the back, cotton batting at the upper underarms, and silk lining through the sleeves.

The matching skirt continues the tailored theme with a high waistline, angled side gathers, and paneled trim detailed with double button accents that echo the bodice. The interior skirt waist features a grosgrain band with two hook-and-eye and two snap closures. The skirt is unlined. A truly special example of early 20th-century tailoring with standout detailing and excellent presence on the form.

Condition: Very good! The jacket has two small darns at the back hem and two darns to the sleeves. The silk sleeve lining is intact with slight wear. The skirt has one darn at the back near the hem and two larger darned areas at the back hemline. The fine silk along the side placket shows wear. All areas are stable.
