Exceptional antique 1890s Victorian bodice jacket crafted in a finely striped charcoal wool woven with subtle green striping that quietly echoes the velvet trim throughout. The fabric has a softly heathered, slightly tweedy texture with beautiful structure. The silhouette is pure late-Victorian drama, featuring bold leg-of-mutton sleeves with gathered shoulders and a tightly tailored waist that flares softly over the hips.

The front panels and sleeve cuffs are trimmed in rich emerald green velvet, lavishly decorated with swirling soutache embroidery and delicate beaded motifs that read almost like tiny snowflakes scattered across the surface. The velvet contrasts beautifully with the wool, while the embroidery adds wonderful texture and dimension up close. The bodice opens at the front with hidden hook-and-eye closures and is framed with decorative trim along the neckline and center front for a striking, elongated line.

Condition: Good to Very Good. Structurally strong and very wearable.

There are a few areas of wear / chews to the wool along with several modern darns, and one small mark on the upper left sleeve. The interior retains cotton padding; the original silk lining that once overlaid this padding is no longer intact, with only remnants remaining near the closures.
