Antique Edwardian 1910s Black Silk Chiffon Embroidered Net Dress with Tiered Sleeves, Medium

Gorgeous antique Edwardian dress dating to the 1910s, crafted in black silk chiffon and richly detailed with machine-embroidered floral net lace. The bodice is styled with a folded-back lace collar and a softly V’d front, featuring a criss-cross net lace bust framed by delicate chiffon pleats that extend downward from the shoulders.

The sleeves are especially striking, designed in dramatic tiers. The outermost layer is loose, flowing sheer silk chiffon trimmed in black silk, while beneath sits a more fitted, tapered sleeve of fine tissue silk. The sleeve hem is finished with an additional tier of sheer silk chiffon trimmed in machine-made needle lace.

A black silk taffeta cummerbund encircles the waist and is finished with a side bow accent, defining the silhouette. The skirt falls from ankle to floor length in an elegant, tiered asymmetrical design, with silk-trimmed skirt “wings” extending at the back for added drama. The inner bodice and inner skirt tier are constructed of fine tissue silk and feature a corselet-style interior waistband with short boning for gentle support and shaping.

The dress fastens with numerous hooks and eyes and snaps across the criss-cross net lace bust, through the interior silk bodice, across the waist, and partially down the left side of the skirt—typical of carefully constructed Edwardian evening wear.

Condition: Very Good. A faint rust-hued spot is present on one sleeve. There is a small hole and a darn to the net lace, along with a couple of minor holes at the back net collar. Overall, the dress presents beautifully.
