Rare natural form bustle era antique Victorian floral calico cotton dress circa late 1870s to early 1880s including a one of a kind fashion sketch from the previous owner! As you can see, two other dresses circa 1905-1908 and 1929-1931 are shown in the drawing. This dress listing includes the original drawing.
Amazing condition for about 140 years of age, dainty floral print calico cotton voile (lovely light weight) Victorian day dress trimmed in black Chantilly lace with fantastic draping. The sleeves are a work of art in themselves completely gathered featuring Chantilly lace sleeve cuffs and grosgrain ribbons. Shirred pleats run down the front bodice and center back with front button closures. The bodice is fully lined with starchy white cotton. The skirt draping is superb with a poofed back, low hip draping and Chantilly lace trimming down and around the front drape. The skirt would have been worn with a bustle pad and petticoats underneath to capture the fullness shown in the pictures. The waistband had 1 new eye/hook closure as the original closure was missing upon receipt.
This antique Victorian gown comes complete with THE ORIGINAL fashion sketch signed "F.A. Schmidt" and "Sketched from the Rosebush Collection". The sketch shows this same gown on the right with subtle brushes of faint blue paint added to the floral print. The far right side showcases a walking dress suit from the 1900s (which I'll be listing soon) and a net lace dress from the late 1920s early 1930s, which has now sold. Truly a special piece of historical textile art.
