Rare Antique Victorian Floral Jacquard Duchesse Silk Dress, 1880s Rose Gown, Emilia Bossi Firenze Victorian Bustle Ball Gown
Outstanding antique 1880s butter soft floral print duchesse silk and jacquard Victorian dress by Emilia Bossi, a renown dressmaker in the 1880s - 1890s whose clients included the Queens of Italy, Servia and Wurtemberg as well as some of the wealthiest American families residing in Italy. This special gown came from the collections of an Italian period costume historian and fashion journalist who has attributed it to Princess Simonetti of the Royal Italian House.
This 2pc Victorian dress set is composed of a fitted bodice styled with a criss-cross lace neckline trimmed with pearl bead, 3/4 length lace trim sleeves, fantastic seam-work, a diagonal front cut with glass paste button closures and an elongated back with lace trim tails! The neck band collar has two hooks and threaded eyes for closure. The inside is fully boned at every seam and an inner grosgrain waistband stamped with 'Emilia Bossi Firenze' and the mark of Savoy as the official tailoring to the Royal House. The flared floor length skirt features three silk ribbon bow accents and is lined with linen with a double pleated flounced hem trimmed with lace. The skirt has an eye/hook closure with subtle small gathers below V of waistband. A small portion of the top diagonal back left side of V is open - possibly for ease of getting in and out of - I've left as-is but it could be stitched closed or snaps could be added. I've shown the dress with padding for a more bustled effect in a few images.
