Rare Antique 1870s 1880s Indigo Blue Printed Cotton Polonaise Dress Ensemble: Bodice Jacket & Skirt, Victorian Blue Calico Dress Set, XXS

Amazing antique late 1870s to early 1880s indigo blue printed cotton polonaise style Victorian dress ensemble including a fitted over dress bodice jacket and matching under skirt! The cotton sateen fabric is in near excellent condition and may also be considered calico as it showcases small repeating geometric triangles and circles. The polonaise style bodice is fashioned with a fitted neckline, lightly puffed shoulders and fitted long sleeves, 23 white glass button down closures, flattering seam-work throughout and a long curved split front skirt that sweeps further down and around the backside with two gathered sections at each side of back skirt creating a striking visual! Polonaise typically would have had three back gathers. The bodice portion is lined in cotton and fine muslin lines the sleeves.

The matching under skirt is ankle to floor length, tightly gathered below the waistband with a hidden right side pocket. The back hem is slightly longer than the front. Modern cotton bias tape with two modern cook/eyes has been added to the waistband to stabilize and preserve the functionality.
