Antique Late Victorian Gold Bullion Embroidered Soutache Skirt Sapphire Blue Velvet Trained Cut Away Bodice Jacket Historical Costume, Med.

Incredible antique late Victorian dress set including an ornate gold metal bullion embroidered sapphire blue silk skirt paired with a dark sapphire blue shot velvet cutaway bodice jacket over dress embellished with matching metal bullion embroidery, braided gold metal tape, metallic gold lace, gold shank buttons and black needlerun net lace trimmed in scalloped gold tone lace! Believed to be circa early 1890s, however, there are some aspects that seem to date more to the late 1880s as well as the late 1890s.

The enchanting skirt is made of silk taffeta in sapphire blue featuring a felted wool center panel that is ornately embroidered with gold metal bullion soutache. Conical in shape, the hem is nicely pleated, followed by a straight under hem along with two scalloped dust ruffle hems. Two cotton ties are stitched to interior back sides of skirt approx. 1/3 down from waistband. The waistband itself is lined in a glazed grosgrain type band and closes with two hook/eyes at center back. The skirt is shown pictured with a small wire bustle underneath (not included in the sale).

The long trained cutaway over bodice dress jacket in dark sapphire blue shot velvet is my favorite as it's dramatic and striking with an amazing gold shimmer as the shot velvet has a gold ground with the sapphire blue nap. Braided gold metal tape trims the neckline and the collar features the same gold metal bullion soutache embroidery on felted wool matching that of the skirt panel. Velvet bows accent each top shoulder/sleeve with metallic gold lace between the loops of the bows. The 3/4 length sleeves feature a velvet flower type accent just before the embroidered gold metal bullion trim, braided gold metal tape and black needlerun net lace with gold tone scalloped tips. The bodice jacket closes with 9 gold tone shank buttons down the front with a subtle V'd point. Cutaway front with the long velvet skirt flanking each side, with super flattering seam-work on the back and gathers below the waistline for a fantastic elongated back train! The bodice portion is lined in black ribbed silk and is fully boned with an interior silk waistband with two hook/eye closures. The interior sides of the skirt portion are lined in blue ribbed silk and the hem is lined in matching sapphire silk taffeta. Two silk bands extend from each side of interior skirt. There also are very small silk ribbons at the sides that would have closed onto small silk ribbon loops at the outer skirt which are no longer fully intact.

A truly wonderful ensemble that's in quite extraordinary condition for it's age!
