1880s Victorian Green Riding Habit Dress, Antique Military Inspired Women's Equestrian Riding Jacket Skirt Set, XS

$400.00

Fantastic antique Victorian green twill riding habit Equestrian riding suit believed to be circa late 1870s or early 1880s. The skirt had been altered at some point - there is quite an allowance around 11" that has been folded and stitched under creating a defined seam before the hemline. The jacket has a heavy military influence with triple shank etched gold tone buttons (only the center buttons are functional). Very flattering seam-work throughout; the front ends in a split center that extends into elongated V's and the backside features an even longer tail extension accented with buttons, loops and piping. These same embellishments are also found near the sleeve hems. A very small pocket is located at the FL side. Fully lined, the interior jacket has its own cotton muslin waist with hook/eye closures. The asymmetrical skirt is floor length with a slightly shorter front that curves down into a longer back hem. The front right side has a hidden pocket and the hem is also a little longer here. Back button closure. I have reinforced the muslin waistband by hand stitching bias tape over top to stabilize it.

Signs of wear with some thinning fabric spots. Interior lining has water rings to underarms and some discoloration.

Skirt: Skirt has been shortened (fabric is still there to undo although slit on one side) and the resulting seam has some loose stitches. Back right panel of skirt is replacement - right hand twill (cotton linen blend?- a little bit lighter in weight as well) and is a brighter green. Bias tape added to stabilize waistband & darning at button closure. A couple darns that get lost and some wear spots. Wear at hem.

Enjoy!
